Coca-Cola didn't become a giant because of better advertising.
They won because when demand appeared, the system was ready.
Independent bottlers invested locally.
Distribution saturated regions.
Availability came before amplification.
Advertising didn’t create dominance.
It amplified an already reliable system.
That’s the part most businesses miss.
When growth feels unpredictable, the instinct is to adjust the message.
But unpredictability rarely starts in the message.
It starts in the system underneath it.
In most businesses, that system is three things: attribution, conversion tracking, and systematic follow-up.
If demand appears and your system can’t:
→ Track it clearly,
→ Convert it cleanly,
→ Or follow it up consistently,
Marketing won’t feel scalable.
It will feel volatile unpredictable.
And the system breaks in predictable ways.
If you're doing "the right things" but your business isn't growing as fast as you want, then this may feel familiar...
Most businesses don’t suffer from a lack of marketing activity.
They suffer because marketing effort doesn’t translate cleanly into revenue.
So, activity increases.
Spend increases.
Complexity increases.
And the business gradually accepts this as normal.
When marketing isn’t pulling its weight, it’s rarely because of:
→ effort
→ competence
→ commitment
→ or even budget
It’s usually because one or more of these things is missing:
→ Attribution - you can't connect spend to revenue by channel
→ Conversion tracking - traffic arrives but leaks before buying
→ Systematic follow-up - leads go cold before they're ready to buy
Until these things are fixed, everything else has to work harder than it should.
The common patterns look like this:
Marketing activity has increased, but no one can connect it to revenue.
Results improve temporarily, then plateau and no one knows why.
Spend is harder to justify, month on month because what causes the effects isn't clear
Marketing feels 'busy', but not dependable.
Revenue comes from more effort, rather than systems
Individually, these aren't a disaster.
BUT collectively, they slow your growth and make your marketing feel unpredictable.

When growth slows or dips, the instinctive response is to add:
→ another channel
→ another campaign
→ another agency
→ another tool
Occasionally this helps... in the short term.
More often, it increases noise without addressing the underlying issue. And that’s because this isn’t an execution problem...
The problem is clarity.
Until the real blocker is identified (and fixed), improvement will always be accidental rather than repeatable.
What changes when the blocker is identified

Decisions are based on evidence, not opinion

Activity becomes purposeful

Marketing works without needing constant effort and attention

Problems are spotted earlier, while they’re still inexpensive to fix
If parts of this page felt echoed your business, the next step isn’t more reading.
It’s clarity.
Here's how I can help. I offer a small number of 30-minute sessions for MDs and senior managers who want to identify what’s blocking revenue growth in their marketing.
At the end you have clarity on:
Identifying what’s actually getting in the way
Understanding why previous efforts haven’t stuck
Deciding whether this is something you can resolve internally
If I can help beyond that, I’ll say so.
If I can’t, you’ll still leave with clarity you didn’t have before.
You run an established business
You're responsible for commercial outcomes
Marketing is harder to justify than it used to be
You want clarity before committing to change
You're in the early stages of your business
You want to hire someone before understanding what's actually broken
You're still experimenting with fundamentals
